Love Your Library

All students should make thorough use of the library – for both general reading as well as research for assignments, homework etc.  Computers can be used to type up and print assignments, for which a computer pass is required – see the library staff.

What is in the library?

The library contains a wide range of interesting and informative material:

 fiction books

 non-fiction books

vertical file information (newspaper clippings etc)

magazines, newspapers and periodicals

videos and CD Rom

Computer and Internet access (10 computer workstations are available)

How do I use the library?

Books can be borrowed for up to TWO WEEKS.

It is important that books are returned promptly so that other students can borrow them.  Borrowing privileges are withdrawn when books are overdue.

Students may re-borrow a book if no other student has reserved it.

Books can be located using the computer inquiry terminals.

The teacher-librarian and library staff are available to assist you whenever the library is open.

It is important that students are quiet while using the library, so as not to disturb others who may be studying or doing research.

Individual students may come to the library to borrow and return books or do research before school any day, or at lunchtimes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

What if I forget to return my library books?

If resources are not returned on time, an overdue notice will be issued to you in Roll Call.  If there is no response to this notice, borrowing rights will be suspended until the resources are returned.

If library resources are not returned for a longer period of time, all borrowing rights will be withdrawn and a letter will be sent to your parents requesting payment for the cost of replacement.

How do I borrow a book?

You will be issued with a KKHS Library Card.  You will not be permitted to borrow without a card.  There is a replacement charge if you lose your card.

When you have selected a book or other library resource, take it with your card to the front desk in the library.

The item will be stamped to tell you when it is due to be returned.

When returning the item you have borrowed, place it in the “Returns” slot just inside the library entrance.

What else is available?

Printing is available for students at 10c per page.  Ask the teacher-librarian before starting a print job.

Photocopying – B&W and colour.  See notices near the copier for charges.

A laminating service is available for important documents and posters.  See the library staff for details.

Students are encouraged to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge (www.schools.nsw.edu.au/premiersreadingchallenge) and the MS Readathon (www.msreadathon.org.au).
